Award Winning Works!

Writer: IllustrationZoneIllustrationZone

Another fantastic year for Illustrationzone artists whose works were recognized with a variety of awards. Here's a recap:

When you pair and award winning writer with an award winning illustrator, what you get is an award winning book!

Glenda Sburelin's work for the book "Where Are You Going Butterfly?", written by Hunter Liguore and published by Reycraft, was selected by the jury of the Society of Illustrators and has been exhibited this month as part of the The Original Art Exhibit at the Society's NYC gallery.

The illustrations for the book were also finalists at the Bologna Children's Book Fair and received a Merit Award at the highly competitive Hiii Illustration Competition.

The beautiful and touching story by Hunter, of a homeless little girl and her kindness towards others, is finding a place even in classrooms.

Virginia's deck of tarot cards created for Client: Ambrosia - Fanucci Editore, was recognized by the Society of Illustrators and is currently on view at the Illustrators 67th Annual Exhibition at the Society's Museum, 128 East 63rd Street, NYC.

Reception: Feb 28, 2025

Various works by Matt Rota were selected by the Society of Illustrators and will be included in the upcoming Illustrators 67th Annual Exhibition at the Society's Museum. Matt's works will be on view from March 8 till April 12, 2025.

Reception: March 28, 2025

Matt's work was also recognized by American Illustration and was named among the best of 2024 by The Atlantic, Pro Publica and Foreign Affairs!

Mike's cover art for Wired Italia received an Award of Excellence in the 66th Annual Communication Arts Illustration Competition.

The illustration related to an article that looked at how our brains are adapting and integrating with the new forms of artificial intelligence.

The selected work will be reproduced in the May/June 2025 issue of the Communication Arts 2025 Annual.

Earlier in the month, Ruth was honoured to learn that she had won the Peter Esslemont Prize for Calligraphy and Illumination, awarded by the Worshipful Company of Scriveners.

The prize ceremony was held at the Sheriffs’ Quill Pen Reception at the beautiful St-Mary-Le-Bow Church.

The chosen works by Ruth were originally created during gilding workshops she taught at the British Library and Wallace Collection and to see them in more detail click on the images to enlarge them.

Martin's paintings were selected once again by the judges of The Society of Illustrators Los Angeles, for inclusion in the Illustration West 63 Exhibition, opening in March.

Martin's work WES100 had also received a SILA Gold Medal in 2024!

Jorge was the winner of the prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum Award for Adult Fiction!

Visit the V&A Illustration Awards displays at V&A South Kensington.

Original sketches and finished artworks, from album cover designs to animations are on show in Room 102. A popup display of selected winning books can be seen outside the National Art Library till 21 September 2025.

Henrike's truly wonderful animation Diminuendo was recognized with numerous awards, and even though this happened prior to 2024-2025, it's certainly worth mentioning, especially as some of you might not have seen her work yet.

Diminuendo, a frame by frame animation which took almost 3 years, visualizes the detrimental effects plastic waste has on marine life and the environment from an emotional point of view.
