Dutch artist Melcher Oosterman presents us with an eclectic mix of colourful, vibrant and detailed worlds inhabited by lively characters. Channeling his fascination for the awkward and absurd, Melcher likes to tell stories and celebrate the imagination. Here are some of his recent projects.
Being one of five illustrators chosen by Google for their 'Emerging Artists' series, Melcher set out to create 4 original pieces of art that can be used as your Google Chrome web browser theme. Melcher came up with numerous hand-drawn ideas based on his love for daydreaming, cats, cycling and fishing. These 4 were the finals :-)

In his recent collaboration with Italian bike manufacturer Cinelli, Melcher created a series of fun merchandise inspired by Cinelli’s 1960 Olympic tandem victory in Rome, where Giuseppe Beghetto and Sergio Bianchetto raced to gold for Italy.
Melcher created the Better Together story bringing his exciting and intricate world to Cinelli—because it’s always better when we’re together!
Earlier last year, Melcher collaborated with Adidas on a fun series explaining the difference between weightlifting and powerlifting. Mixing his love for comic books with sports, Melcher approached the art of infographics in his own unique and fun way.
His work from a collaboration with agency N=5 was among the ones awarded with a Bronze for Illustration and Typography by the ADCN Awards judges.
The animation was for the "Eerlijk is Eerlijk" series on consumer suffering and how Consumentenbond (consumer association) can help.
In this episode we follow Jackie having a terrible experience with a locksmith.
Don't forget to turn the sound on while watching!

Melcher is also very comfortable with editorial assignments and will not shy away from the most challenging concepts. In fact, that is where his wheels really start turning and his fun and clever approach reaches its apex.
