Xinyue's Personal Projects

The Museum of Extraordinary Things, Illustrated by Xinyue Chen (2021)

Poster colors on paper
A project based on Alice Hoffman’s novel with the same name. Xinyue was intrigued by the two female characters in the book. One was a girl with hand deformity that was used as “The Human Mermaid” in the museum, the other one was a maid who was controlled by the owner of the museum and whose face was burnt with acid by the same man.
Xinyue wanted to show the situation they were in by drawing them as exhibits in the museum, and show the cruelty of freak shows at that time.
