Un dieu sur deux est une déesse

All the peoples of the Earth have sought to understand the mysteries of creation of the universe and their own world. Then, they attempted to explain the meaning of life, to imagine the origin of nature's forces, both unsettling and benevolent, and to overcome the fear of death. Each community offered answers to these existential questions through stories passed down through time. These
narratives are called "myths," a word that comes from the Greek mythos, meaning "story." In all these stories, supernatural forces and invisible spirits are at work and take the form of gods or goddesses. The first deity to appear in prehistory is the Mother Goddess, a symbol of life and fertility. This primary role of the female figure has been disregarded by many cultures. Indeed The history and exploits of goddesses have most often been written by authors who frowned upon them being considered the equals of the gods. Living in a society where men had given little space to women, these authors did not value female deities. Thus, from generation to generation, in some countries of the world, they have been sidelined, minimized, or even caricatured. And so the goddesses have become almost invisible! It is time to redress this injustice because in every corner of the mythological world, goddesses live adventures as incredible as they are thrilling. At once fearsome, joyful, tenacious, strategic, and protective, they deploy a wealth of ingenuity to carry out their missions. They possess unique knowledge that they alone master. They reign over many aspects of community life, and the balance of these communities depends as much on their presence as on that of their father, their husband, or their brothers…Reminding us that one out of every two gods is a goddess is to combat prejudice and to take a bold look at the mythologies of peoples around the world.
